- The first sip of a perfect Martini, made by a talented mixologist, in a pretty bar, after a really hard day's work.
- The opportunity to scent-layer at home, for no great reason. You know: slow afternoon. So you take a bubble bath, then add moisturiser, talcum powder, all of the same scent - followed by a quiet night at home wth pasta and a fillum. (The trick, as with all scent-work, is to be lightlightlight and not overdo things. The pleasure is when your clothing gently wafts a hint of a scent, and you notice it from time to time.)
- When your furry/feathery friend says 'I love you'. Especially when you'd been feeling a bit low.
- When you walk into your workplace and people look pretty happy to see you.
- A Scotch that makes you close your eyes and think of Scotland. Even if you've never been there.
- Hand-knitted socks that were made for you by somebody who really likes you. Somehow those ones last forever and never, ever give you blisters.
- That moment in a plane when you have been travelling high above the clouds and haven't slept for twenty hours and are tired, but then the sun comes up and you get the feel of the sun on your face through the plane window, and suddenly feel as though you have had eight hours' sleep and a wonderful adventure to come.
- Steam train whistle!
- You suddenly realise: at this moment, I am completely happy and satisfied. And you commit the moment to memory. And then later on, you remember it.
- Your casserole has been cooking slowly for hours filling your home with the fragrance of your granny's recipe, your kitchen is bathed in autumn afternoon light, and your antique clock is ticking. And that's enough.
